Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between UUID v4 and v7?
v4 is fully random. v7 starts with a timestamp, so new IDs sort in creation order, which keeps database indexes fast.
Can two generated UUIDs collide?
In practice no. A v4 UUID has 122 random bits, so a collision is astronomically unlikely.
Is a GUID the same as a UUID?
Yes. GUID is the name Microsoft uses for the same 128-bit identifier.
